The $10 Million GTD Wynn Millions was the key attraction of the Wynn Summer Classic and it culminated in a thrilling Finale on Saturday with the 38-year old poker pro Andrew Moreno topping the massive field of 1,325 entrants in the $10,000 buy-in event to win a career-best $1.46 Million. Starting the FT with the third largest stack, he played some top-notch poker to eventually ship the title after a three-way deal with the start-of-day chip leader Clayton Maguire (runner-up for $1.44 Million) and the former EPT and the Aussie Millions champion Toby Lewis (3rd for $1.23 Million)!
With this win, Moreno took his career earnings to a whopping $2,516,261. He is a well-known player and has been a dominating presence on the felts this year. He had won the $1,100 buy-in Venetian DeepStack UltimateStack for $127,740 on June 16. His only other live victory came in 2013 when he bested a 720-entry field in a $400 buy-in Venetian DeepStacks event for an impressive $53,935.
The timing of Moreno‘s massive victory in the $10 Million GTD Wynn Millions is perfect because he is married to former PokerNews hostess Kristy Arnett and the couple are expecting their first child later this year. Moreno is also the brother of poker pro and popular vlogger Johnnie Moreno. Both his brother and wife were on the rail when Moreno secured the big victory. Moreno was all praises for the mega tournament and its organizers and he said, “It was probably the best event I’ve ever played as far as the structure and the room. The floors listen to the players a lot, and there was always an open-ended conversation. Everything about the tournament was pristine.”
The $10 Million GTD Wynn Millions needed to draw 1,064 total runners and it did amazingly well, drawing 1,328 entries to build a gaurantee-crushing $12,483,200 prize pool. As expected, the event drew some of the biggest names in poker and a number of them made ITM finishes, including John Racener (133rd – $25,091), Daniel Negreanu (114th – $27,099), Ramiro Petrone (93rd – $31,842), Jason Koon (79th – $38,179), David “ODB” Baker (68th – $41,997), Alex Foxen (57th – $46,406), Farid Jattin (55th – $46,406), Kristen Bicknell (53rd – $51,650), Tom Marchese (38th – $57,952), Jared Jaffee (30th – $65,485), and the 2012 WSOP Main Event runner-up Jesse Sylvia (21st – $84,956).
WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open champion Ilyas Muradi finished 14th for $128,645, while Maria Ho took home $97,274 for coming in 20th place. The current #1-ranked American online player, Frank Funaro, finished in 28th for $65,485, while Chris Moorman exited in 127th place for $25,091.
