WSOP Online 2021: Justin Lapka Wins Event #17: $400 NLH 8-Max For $75,371

On Saturday, the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online Event #17: $400 No-Limit Hold’em 8-Max attracted a 1,125-entry field and resulted in a $405,000 prize pool. After over 11 hours of intense play, it was the professional online poker player and Twitch streamer Justin ‘LappyPoker’ Lapka who came out on top, earning his first WSOP gold bracelet  and career-best $75,371.

The top 167 were paid out from a $405,000 prize pool, with Jeremiah “freestyler” Williams (13th – $3,362), Donnell “spreezy52” Dais (17th – $2,673), Ryan “Adopt_aDogg0” Leng (21st – $2,187), Tony “Panoramic” Dunst (32nd – $1,782), Anthony “heheh” Zinno (40th – $1,539), Jesse “mrjessejames” Sylvia (73rd – $850.50), Anthony “flawlessbink” Maio (100th – $648), Martin “bathroomline” Zamani (123rd – $648), and Ryan “joeyisamush” Depaulo (137th – $648) being the notable ITM finishers.

Final Table Action

The FT began with ‘Beratna’ in the chip lead and Lapka near the bottom of the leaderboard. It did not take long for the field to narrow down to seven. Brandon “Omni27” Ienn was the first player to be eliminated from the final table. He ran pocket treys into the nines of “Beratna” to fall in eighth place.

Joseph “ShoeGoat” Walters followed him in seventh losing ace-five all in preflop to the ace-jack of Chance “BingShui” Kornuth. Troy “troyrlee” Lee was the next player to fall and he was eliminated by Lapka in sixth place. A little later, WSOP bracelet winner Jason “TheBigGift” Gooch exited in fifth place.

Despite eliminating a couple of players out early, Chance Kornuth ended his run in fourth place. He lost  in a race holding pocket fives against the ace-king of Uke “ooopsmybad” Dauti, who turned a Broadway straight. Another preflop race ultimately set the heads-up play. ‘Beratna’ got all-in with AK facing 88 of Lapka.The board brought no help and ‘Beratna’ was knocked out in third place.

Lapka took more than a 2:1 chip lead into heads-up with Dauti and rode his lead to eventually win the title. The final hand of the tournament saw Dauti holding with Qh 7d against Ks 5s of Lapka. The board ran out Jh 5h 5c Ah Kh, giving Lapka a full house and Dauti a flush. Lapka locked up the pot as well as the title. Dauti was awarded $46,575 as the runner-up, while Lapka won $75,371!
