Adrian Mateos Takes Down €10,300 NLHE For €177,500 At EPT Prague

The first event of the 2019 EPT Prague – €10,300 No-Limit Hold’em is in the books with Spanish poker pro and three-time WSOP bracelet winner Adrian Mateos emerging as the champion. He defeated a field of 61 entries, including Anton Yakuba in heads-up to win €177,500 in top prize.

27 players returned on Day 2 and the notables among them included Seth Davies, Jimmy Guerrero, Kahle Burns, Michael Soyza, Quan Zhou, and Yuan Li to name a few. After Matthias Eibinger going out as bubble boy, the final table of the event was formed where Anton Yakuba held (910,000) the chip lead, while the eventual champion – Adrian Mateos (340,000) had the third largest stack.

With a total of 61 entries, the event generated a hefty prize pool of €591,700. The top prize of €177,500 ($196,304) went to Adrian Mateos, who added another PokerStars Spade trophy to his collection. This was his sixth PokerStars EPT win and it took his live earnings to over $19.62 million.

On his way to the major victory, Mateos outlasted Arsenii Karmatckii (8th), Orpen Kisacikoglu (7th), Tsugunari Toma (6th), Bertrand Grospellier (5th), Vladimir Troyanovskiy (4th), and Derek Ip (3rd) to eventually reach heads-up with Russia’s Anton Yakuba who had started the FT as a chip leader.

In heads-up, it was Mateos who started as the chip leader and never relinquished his lead. It was a surprising end to the dual after Mateos turned over 4s 2d for the winning two pair on a runout of 9s 6d 2s 4d Ac. Yakuba showed Kd Qd for a flush draw and eventually lost the coveted title to Mateos.
