WPT Cambodia: Ravi Shankar & Sood Score FT Finishes In Megastack Freezeout; Iyer Enters Day 2 In SHR

Yesterday was a busy day at the ongoing WPT Cambodia with three events crowning winners. One of the major events playing down to a champion yesterday was the Megastack Freezeout, a two-day event where the final day saw the 9 runners taking their seats. Among the final 9 players on the FT were the two Indian players, namely Gaurav Sood (the start-of-FT chip leader) and Ravi Shankar Metlapalli who started FT as the third largest stack and did exceptionally well by finishing runner-up to France’s Pierre Yves Faivre who earned $19,952 for his. Metlapalli settled for $12,646 (INR 9 Lac).

After the elimination of Japan’s Kohei Nakai in the 9th place and Dhanesh Chainani in the 8th, the tournament didn’t take long to reach the three-handed play where India’s Metlapalli eliminated Kue Seong Tchong after he hit a higher straight with 7h 9h against Tchong’s As 7d on a 4865Q rundown.

Ravi Shankar Metlapalli entered the heads-up with a 3-to-1 lead against the Frenchman Pierre Yves Faivre but the latter went on to take down three major pots to take the chip lead and eventually win the tournament. On the last hand of the event, Faivre held Qc Jd against 9s 5s of Metlapalli and won the the coveted title for $19,952 (INR 14.33 Lac) after pairing his jacks on the board.

The fifth event of the series drew 149 entries and generated a prize pool of $72,265, which was shared by top 19 players. It was a profitable event for India as three of our Indians scored. The two other Indians to score were Gaurav Sood (4th for $4,519) and  Chakshu Deep Raina at 12th for $1,734 (INR 1.24 Lac).

Vietnam’s Duy Manh Takes Down $300 Short Deck  

The 6th event of the series registered 109 entries, each paying a buy-in of $330. A prize pool of $25,142 was created and the the top 14 players received payouts. The eventual winner to emerge in the tournament was Vietnam’s Duy Manh Ho who took home $6,015 after a three-way deal.

Pradeep Nudurumati & Ankit Wadhawan Score in $300 Bounty

The third event to crown a champion yesterday was the $300 Bounty tournament, which drew 197 entries, generating a prize pool of $31,894, which was shared by the top 25 places for a min-cash of $239. Topping this field was Australia’ Mr Blablata for $7,935. From Team India, two Indians finished ITM and they included Nudurumati Pradeep (9th for $794 and Ankit Wadhawan (21st for $391).

Abhinav Iyer Among 17 Players Making Day 2 In $5,300 Super High Roller

The eighth event on the WPT Cambodia schedule yesterday was the $5,300 Super High Rollers, which attracted 54 entries that included 44 unique players. A prize pool of $261,900 was generated, and only 17 survived following 13 levels of play. Bagging the chip lead was Australia’s Michael John Egan (2,130,000). Joining the action on Day 1 play were the two Indians – WSOP bracelet winner Abhinav Iyer and Kartik Ved. While Ved failed to progress, Iyer succeeded in advancing to Day 2. He bagged 360,000 chips and will be eyeing a big score when he returns for Day 2 play today.
