Popular Poker Tells

Identifying Poker tells are among the most important poker tricks that a player can learn. Poker tells are not necessarily in the same league as math skills in poker, but being able to read your opposition is definitely an asset during a poker card game. Poker tells are essentially the simple signs that your opposition unconsciously give, which could indicate whether their play was true or a bluff. Seasoned players can give out false tells as well, just to throw opponents off track. Hence being able to identify a poker tell and using it to your advantage can be quite essential among your bag of poker tricks.

Poker tips to identifying popular tells

Poker tells usually are in two forms.

  •  Physical cues that can be identified to be synonymous with specific actions of players are the most popular tells. They sometimes can be very mild such as a quick flick of the eye lids, or a slight uneasiness in their voice. To identify physical cues, it is important that one observes the players through the game to be able to tell the legitimate cues from fake tells during a poker card game. When it is a seasoned player you are dealing with, it could take more than one tell to identify a bluff. For example, in one particular game, several simultaneous cues like a sudden shifty behavior  change in tone and awkward movements gave the bluff away.

  •  Playing patterns can be an obvious tell. Popular poker tips suggest that in big games, it is important to have studied your opponents before hand to know what their betting patterns are usually like. His playing patterns can tell you when he may be bluffing and whether he may have a good or bad hand. Understanding his playing style and potentially his reasoning behind an action could give you the necessary information to decide a play or a call. When playing a game of online poker there is a distinct disadvantage in that you can’t see your opponents and hence cannot look out for physical tells. In that case, playing patterns are the most important of tells.
