Coronavirus continues to spread at a rapid speed, and this has affected several poker events across the globe. Several poker tournament brands have cancelled or postponed their events, while some others have moved their tournaments online, including the WPT and the Irish Poker Open.
On Tuesday, March 17, WPT CEO – Adam Pliska announced that the three World Poker Tour final tables that were set to play out at the HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas inside the Luxor from March 31 to April 2 will be postponed due to the growing threat of the Coronavirus. While the three televised final tables have been postponed, WPT hopes to make these tables happen in May along with other televised FTs. Other changes to ongoing events will be communicated on WPT.com.
“Due to the evolving circumstances surrounding the current crisis, the WPT will postpone its televised final tables set to tape between March 31 and April 2 at HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas. With public health welfare a priority and in line with government and agency directives, we will tentatively look to hold these tables in May with our second set of televised final tables. Further, we will communicate any other schedule changes to ongoing tournaments and events on WPT.com,” said Pliska.

The 3 main tour events that were to have their final tables run from this month included the WPT Gardens Poker Championship, the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open, and the WPT L.A. Poker Classic.
The other three events, which do not have their final tables scheduled until May, are the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, WPT Choctaw, and the WPT Tournament of Champions. The Tournament of Champions is scheduled for May 31 through June 2 at the HyperX Esports Arena.

To replace some of the tournaments that have been postponed, WPT had announced the first-ever WPT Online Series, which is scheduled for May 10 to 26 and comprises of 10 events, including a $5 million Main Event. Stay tuned in for other updates on the tournaments and other news from poker!
